Kia Motors starts test production at new plant in Slovakia
Kia Motors has confirmed that they have started a test run production at their new plant located in Slovakia. This news comes when the company is stuck in a cash-for-favors scandal, which might affect its global expansion plans.
They are the second largest automaker in the South Korean market after Hyundai and they recently delayed a groundbreaking ceremony at its first U.S. plant in Georgia. This was because their president, Chung Eui-sun was under questioning by South Korean prosecutors over the case.
Michael Choo, Kia’s international communication manager said in a statement on this new development: “The Slovakia plant began trial production earlier this month.” The factory was built with an investment of around 1 billion euro and it is expected to start mass production of cars by the end of the year.
Kia would be making compact cars and small sports utility vehicles at this plant, which has a capacity of manufacturing 300,000 units a year.
