Microsoft told to pay USD 200 million in a patent lawsuit

US based software giant Microsoft has been asked by the court to pay Canadian software firm i4i Ltd $200 million in damages for infringing a patent.

Microsoft has said that they are planning appeal this judgement.

I4I had filed the lawsuit against Microsoft in 2007 claiming patent infringement in products like MS Office and Windows Vista.

The patent was related to technology for manipulating a document’s content and architecture separately.

Microsoft had this to say: “The evidence clearly demonstrated that we do not infringe and that the i4i patent is invalid. We believe this award of damages is legally and factually unsupported, so we will ask the court to overturn the verdict.”
