Dell to increase imports from Taiwan

World’s largest maker of personal computers, Dell Inc has said that they are aiming at expanding the imports of computing components from Taiwan. They are expecting this figure to touch US$12.5 billion in 2006.

A lot of computing products manufacturers are now outsourcing components from Taiwan based manufacturers to cut costs.

Dell wants to benefit from that considering they posted a drop in worldwide market share in the first quarter of the year. Dell’s Chief Executive Officer Kevin Rollins said in a statement: “The PC market globally last year was at a pretty rapid pace and in the first quarter it was going at 11 percent, so we think it will be healthy growth worldwide although a bit slower than last year.”

He added: “Dell plans to spend US$12.5 billion purchasing products in Taiwan this year to support our global business and manufacturing. Growing solid partnerships in Taiwan … will be key to our global expansion.”
