Arcelor now sues Mittal Steel over patent infringement

Arcelor, which has been a target for acquisition by the world’s largest steel company Mittal Steel, has now sued the company claiming it infringed upon their patents.

Arcelor said in a statement that they have initiated legal action in the U.S. against Mittal Steel over car-steel technology.

The patent is related to Arcelor’s Usibor technology, which is used in high-strength steel for auto-body panels. Mittal Steel on the other hand believes that the claims made by their smaller rivals are baseless. Company chief Lakshmi Mittal in fact insists on friendly talks with Arcelor, which has largely opposed his takeover bid.

Arcelor and Mittal Steel both are aiming to become the largest player in the World’s Car-Steel market. Mittal are the dominating players in the USA while Arcelor provides the steel for every second car made in Europe.
