Nissan would manufacture electric cars in USA

Nissan Motor has announced that they are soon going to start manufacturing electric cars in the US market.

They are aiming to benefit from the collapse of the American auto giants like GM, Ford and Chrysler.

The company would manufacture both cars and batteries at its plant in Smyrna, Tennessee.

These cars would be launched in the US and Japanese market sometime next year. Global launch would take place by 2012.

Nissan boss Carlos Ghosn said in a statement: “I am not at all worried about selling these cars because there is an appetite for zero-emission cars… Our electric vehicle is not just one car innovation. It is a new way to look at our industry.”

They are already aiming to launch their first electric car model in Japan later this year.
