PSA Peugeot-Citroen could decide upon Indian plans by the end of the year

French automaker PSA Peugeot-Citroen is long expected to make an entry into the Indian automotive market.

Market sources say that they might take a decision before the end of the year.

Industry sources say: “Indications are that Peugeot will go ahead with the India plan but tread cautiously. Numbers will be modest to begin with and could be ramped up gradually depending on market acceptance of the products on offer.”

They might start launching their products in India by 2011 to see if they can penetrate into this growing market.

Incidentally, Peugeot has already tried their hands with India. Peugeot 309 was launched in the early 1990s. It was a great product but failed to generate much excitement due to lack of company presence in the country.

The auto group might enter the market with the Citroen brand to avoid evoking the bad memories of their previous failure in India.

India has become a crucial market for any auto giant looking at the growth potential and sales number.
