GM might sell rebranded Toyota Prius?
Bloomberg has reported that Toyota and General Motors are in talks for a possible deal over Toyota Prius.
The report said that GM might offer a rebranded version of Toyota Prius in the US market.
Industry sources say that Toyota President Akio Toyoda and GM’s Fritz Henderson are scheduled to meet in August this year.
GM has just announced that they are giving up their stake in a jointly owned factory in California.
The company said in a statement: “After extensive analysis, GM and Toyota could not reach an agreement on a future product plan that made sense for all parties”.
Toyota had this to say: “Our hope was for the 50/50 joint venture to continue. While we respect this decision by GM, the economic and business environment surrounding Toyota is also extremely severe, and so this decision by GM makes the situation even more difficult for Toyota. We will consider alternatives by taking into account various factors.”
Toyota Prius is the world’s most popular hybrid car.
