FabCity project comes to Hyderabad
The city of Hyderabad has beaten Bangalore to snatch away the much-anticipated FabCity project. The Andhra Pradesh government along with SemIndia announced that they plan to setup the $3-billion (Rs 13,500 crore) project to manufacture semiconductors at a 1,200-acre site near the upcoming Hyderabad international airport.
This site is located around 40km from the city and would be manufacturing semiconductors used in computers, mobile phones, and other digital devices. The project has also invited enquires from semi conductors makers Nano Tech and Cypress Semiconductor and the government is luring more companies to setup their bases in this location.
Bangalore as well as Chennai were interested in taking away this project and looks like Hyderabad has beaten them both in luring the investors for the project. The work on this project is expected to begin next month at an initial investment of $1 billion.
The Indian government believes that the project has the capability of generating employment for over 15 lakh people by 2015. Union minister for IT and communication Dayanidhi Maran spoke about this project: “AMD has already agreed to come in and is transferring the microprocessor technology to SemIndia. Nokia has agreed to set up a manufacturing plant in Chennai. Even Motorola and Siemens are coming in.”

About

This is the start of an incredible era of semiconductor technology development in India. India, however has highlighted its presence in software by a vast extent, couldn’t do the same in the semiconductor arena. But, now, by taking this major step, not only has the Hyderabad city got a big name, also India has got a big chance to prove itself interms of intelligence and dedication.
I do hope that this will also solve the problem of employment in hyderabad and adjacent states. This will also provide a good chance for those people who actually want to prove themselves in the arena of semiconductor technology; one among them is me.
