New York Times considering charging for online access

Bloomberg has reported that the US based news media giant New York Times is considering charging for online access to their news articles.

They have asked some of their print subscribers if they would be willing to pay a small fee to access the content online.

The charges could be around USD 2.5 for print subscribers and USD 5 for other web users.

NYTimes.com is currently totally free for access.

Newspaper companies around the world have been struggling to generate enough revenues through advertising. New York Times is also struggling to stay profitable with the struggling global economy resulting in reduced revenues from ads both in print and online editions.
