Government employees told to fly on Air India
It is not a secret that government owned airline company Air India is struggling to compete in the highly competitive Indian aviation market.
The situation is so bad that the Indian government has now made it mandatory for all government employees to use Air India for all official domestic and international tours.
The aim is to help generate some revenues for the state owned airline company.
Industry sources claim that the government revenues for the airline company alone contributes to around 10% of total revenues.
The Indian finance ministry had this to say on the decision: “It has been decided that in all cases of air travel, both domestic and international, where the government bears the cost of air passage, the officials concerned may travel only by Air India.”
