NTT DoCoMo and Microsoft to launch music download service
NTT DoCoMo is planning to launch a music download service targeted a mobile phone users in the Japanese market. They would be collaborating with Microsoft to use their technologies for this service.
This service would rival a similar popular services operated by rival Japanese cell phone service providers such as KDDI.
The company is aiming at enabling the mobile phone owners to transfer music to their phones from a PC. Users would be able to purchase and download songs from as many as 100 different music services.
They would also be able to save the music from their owned Audio CDs and transfer them to mobile phones for later playing.
DoCoMo has already announced plans to put Microsoft’s Windows Media technology into its 3G mobile phones planned for launch in the coming months. These mobile phones would support WMA and Windows Media DRM 10 digital rights management technology.
In addition, the phones would also support Windows Media Video technology.
