NTT DoCoMo aims to launch LTE services by next year

NTT DoCoMo has announced that they are aiming to launch mobile services powered by Long Term Evolution technology in the Japanese market before the end of next year.

This network would replace the current 3G technology based High Speed Packet Access mobile network.

The company admitted that the new network would further lower the cost of data transfer on mobile networks.

The service would initially be targeted towards users who want mobile internet connectivity. They would launch mobile handsets by the year 2011.

The longer term aim is to provide LTE services to at least half of the Japanese market by 2014.
