Private radio channels in India could soon be able to broadcast news

Private radio stations in India are currently not allowed to broadcast news.

This could soon change as the government is likely to update the guidelines.

A government source has been quoted as saying: “The issue is under active consideration. The modalities will have to be discussed.”

A lot of players in the private radio segment have been demanding from the government the permission to broadcast news on their channels.

If this is approved, the radio channels would be able to get their news from the news bulletins of Doordarshan and All India Radio.
