Walt Disney to acquire Marvel Entertainment
This one is a biggie.
Walt Disney has announced that they are now acquiring Marvel Entertainment.
This acquisition deal is worth around USD 4 billion.
It is a great buy for Disney as they would gain rights to around 5,000 Marvel characters.
These include some high profile names like Spider-Man, Captain America, the Fantastic Four, Thor and X-Men.
Disney and Marvel company boards have already approved the deal. It would now require the approval from the regulatory bodies and other shareholders.
Disney president and chief executive Robert Iger said in a statement: “We believe that adding Marvel to Disney’s unique portfolio of brands provides significant opportunities for long-term growth and value creation. We are pleased to bring this talent and these great assets to Disney.”
Marvel chief executive Ike Perlmutter added: “Disney is the perfect home for Marvel’s fantastic library of characters given its proven ability to expand content creation and licensing businesses. This is an unparalleled opportunity for Marvel to build upon its vibrant brand and character properties by accessing Disney’s tremendous global organization and infrastructure around the world.”
