eBay to sell 65 percent stake in Skype
Online auction service eBay has announced that they are selling 65% stake in the VoIP company Skype.
The stake is being acquired by a group of investors. The terms of this deal puts the value of the company at around 2.75 billion dollars.
The company said that they are planning to keep the remaining stake in the company which remains one of the most popular VoIP services on the web.
The acquiring party is led by private equity firm Silver Lake Partners.
This transaction is expected to be complete by the end of the current year.
This is essentially a loss making deal for eBay as they had spent close to around 3.1 billion dollars for the company.
