Dish Network told to pay USD 200 million to TiVo
U.S. District Court judge David Folsom has told Dish Network and EchoStar to pay around USD 200 in penalties to TiVo.
This penalty is for violating a permanent injunction for using a modified technology that enables a user to rewind and pause live television broadcast.
The judge added that the penalties would increase if Dish Network loses their appeal on the case.
TiVo had asked for USD 1 billion in fines from the courts.
The court ruled that Dish Network went against its decision by providing the solution using the modified technology from April 2008 to July 2009.
Dish Network had this to say on the new developments: “The decision confirms our belief that we designed around TiVo’s patent in good faith. We believe that we ultimately will prevail on appeal.”
