Fiat India might launch 1.6 liter Linea Diesel later this year
Team-BHP has hinted that the company is prepared to launch Linea with a brand new diesel engine later this year.
The reports said that Fiat India could bring to India the 1.6 liter diesel engine in Linea.
Fiat Linea Diesel is currently powered with a 1.3 liter engine that also powers a couple of other cars in the Indian market like Maruti Swift and Tata Indica.
Being an owner of this car, I can surely say that the car feels underpowered. The 1.6 liter engine would make it a much better drive.
We just wish they had launched the 1.6 engine option a bit earlier…
Fiat has yet to confirm any of these plans though.

This is factually incorrect. Team-bhp was the first to break the news that 1.6L engine is not coming to India. Fiat's CEO had mentioned it and i personally got a mail from him confirming the same. Most likely launch seems the 1.4 T-jet version that produces 122 bhp for the petrol.

I bought my 1.3L Linea after reading that interview on Team-BHP.
The thread about the 1.6L Linea was reopened by the moderators on Team-BHP after a member got the information from some Fiat source.
The post links to that part of the thread.

The information about the launch of, both, 1.6 diesel and 1.4 t-jet petrol is absolutely correct. A few days ago, while Punto was already there in the market and making news, I called up a Fiat Dealership in Delhi to have an input on the same, whereupon I was informed that the entire sales team was on attending a training programme. Sales Teams are usually briefed before the launch of a new vehicle/variant, and hence, you can do the necessary mathematics.
