Duronto Express: Delhi to Kolkata in 16 hours!

Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee has flagged off the first of the many Duronto Express.

The first route being offered is between New Delhi and Kolkata (Banerjee is from West Bengal!).

This train promises to shorten the time taken by trains on this route by around 90 minutes compared to the Rajdhani Express.

There would be no commercial stops taken by this train on the entire route. The Indian railways said that this train would cover the distance in around 16 hours.

Mamata Banerjee spoke at the occasion: “I think running an express train like Duronto is an achievement for all of us. We all are heading for a new world. Thus our ideas should also be modern. We announced altogether 14 such trains in this year’s railway budget and many of them are already ready. We’ll gradually launch all these trains.”
