Narayana Murthy to setup down from Chairman position at Infosys Technologies
NR Narayana Murthy has said that he would be stepping down from the position of Chairman on his 60th birthday this coming August 20.
He said in a statement to a news group: “According to our company regulations, the retirement age for chairman is 60. However, I will become non-executive chairman of the company from 21st August.”
He would stay as the non-executive chairmanship of the company for the next five years. His new role would be to ensure that board members discharge their functions well. He would also make sure that there are no violations of ethics or norms.
He added: “When Nandan (Nilekani) took over in 2002, I decided to slowly wean away from direct involvement since people would continue to come to me than Nandan.”
He had previously served as the chief executive officer of Infosys between 1981 and 2002.
