Sun Microsystems to cut 3000 jobs

Sun Microsystems has announced that they would cut around 3000 jobs sometime next year.

Sun is in the process of getting acquired by Oracle and they are looking for approval from the European regulatory bodies.

The delay means that Sun is losing money and they have to cut costs to stay afloat.

US DoJ has already given its approval to this deal.

Oracle recently stated that Sun is losing USD 100 million every month due to the delays.

European Commission is mostly concerned about MySQL division of Sun.

MySQL is an open source database product which is a rival of Oracle Database solutions.

They have been asked by open source evangelists to force Oracle to sell MySQL division if they want to acquire Sun Microsystems.
