Gap Inc. Direct to launch online footwear business
Internet has become a focal point for companies, which has primarily relied on old-fashioned stores and shops. The latest example is of Apparel retailer Gap who has said that they would soon be launching an online footwear business.
This new online division is expected to be ready for the upcoming holiday season later this year and would target consumers with casual and designer footwear.
The company is struggling in the retail market as the competition in this market has become more intense in the last couple of years. And this has resulted in a situation that Gap is looking for new avenues to generate business and revenues.
Toby Lenk, president of Gap Inc. Direct, said in a statement on this new development: “Almost two-thirds of our online customers surveyed last year said that they would buy shoes online from Gap Inc”.
He added: “Gap.com, OldNavy.com and BananaRepublic.com are all consistently among the top 10 specialty apparel sites in terms of traffic, so we believe we already have an active and loyal customer base for online footwear.”
