Toyota builds Camry in China
World’s second largest automobile maker Toyota has started manufacturing their popular Toyota Camry vehicle in China. The company is hoping that it would spark a similar revolution in this market as it did in the competitive US market.
This would also help Toyota take on Japanese rivals from Honda Motor to Nissan in this market, which currently dominates Toyota in this region.
Yoshimi Inaba, Toyota’s executive vice president in charge of China operations said in a statement: “We have come to the same level as Nissan and Honda…in terms of volume, quality and overall performance.”
Camry is hugely successful in the US market as it has been the best-selling car in the United States for eight of the past nine years. Toyota is also nearing the stage where they would probably overtake General Motors to become the world’s largest carmaker in the coming years. China becomes a crucial player for them in this regard.
