Globalive Wireless Management to launch mobile services in Canada
Globalive Wireless Management has been granted permission by the Canadian government to launch mobile services in Canada.
It would now become the fourth mobile service provider in the country after Rogers Communications Inc., BCE Inc. and Telus Corp.
Globalive CEO Anthony Lacavera said in a statement: “Now we’re ready for action. It’s a great day for Canadians in wireless. We could be launching as early as next week.”
They were earlier denied permissions to launch their services in this market on the grounds that most of the company was owned by Orascom Telecom Holding which is based in Egypt.
Canadian Industry Minister Tony Clement admitted: “We came to the conclusion the lender had influence over the company, which is perfectly acceptable under our legislation, it did not have control over the company. This variance is effective immediately allowing Globalive to enter the market without delay.”
