Malaysia talking with Disney for an amusement theme park

As per incoming reports, Malaysia is taking with the US based Disney group to set up a Disney theme park in southern Johor state. Malaysia is struggling to showcase itself as a tourist destination as neighboring Singapore is doing well to attract more and more tourists.

The Malaysian government officials are talking with executives from Oriental Land Co. Ltd, which operates the Disney’s part in Japan for a similar project to be based in Malaysia.

Malaysian Economic Planning Minister Effendi Norwawi said in a statement: “We are exploring all options because in the southern corridor development we want it to be comprehensive, we want it to be an attractive region. So it will include theme parks and other attractions, so we are hoping to get Disney, but we are discussing with several other parties to see which is the most realizable option.”

He added: “Yes, we have been in discussions with Tokyo and also with Disney in the U.S.”

Japan’s Oriental Land on their part added: “We are only a Disney licensee. We have no rights to set up a Disney park nor provide advice on its operations.”
