BBC to bring BBC World news channel to the United States
UK based news network giants BBC has announced that they are bringing its BBC World news channel to the United States. The aim is to capture a share in this American market with their international news content.
They are also planning a morning show to compete with U.S. programs starting next month in July. BBC would be running the show named “World News Today” featuring anchor George Alagiah. It would also be broadcasted globally but would cater specifically to US audience.
Jeremy Hillman, the new editor of BBC World and the outgoing New York bureau chief said in a statement: “We really feel there’s actually a huge vacuum for us to fill in terms of global, responsible, impartial reporting. I don’t think we expect to be up there beating Fox and, you know, the main networks, but what we want is a good, sizable loyal audience.”
