Schering-Plough Corp. to cut 1,100 jobs at its plants in Puerto Rico and New Jersey
Drug maker Schering-Plough Corp. has said in a statement that they are planning to cut as many as 1,100 jobs at its plants in Puerto Rico and New Jersey.
This would see them reducing their global workforce by around 3.3%. The aim is to cut costs and reduce operations with excess manufacturing capacity.
The company has come under criticism from the US regulators for their quality control measures. However, Schering-Plough claims that these job cuts are no way related to the costly upgrade of its quality control systems.
Company representative Rosemarie Yancosek said in a statement: “We have had excess capacity at these four plants, and now we’re streamlining that. You always try to improve efficiencies from what you make in the plants to getting products out to stores and consumers.”
