Japan Airlines joins the Oneworld Alliance
Japan Airlines is the largest carrier in the competitive market of Japan and they have just announced their decision to join the Oneworld alliance. They would make their entry into this group next year and this would increase the carrying capacity of the alliance by as much as 19%.
Gerard Arpey, chief executive officer of AMR Corp.’s American Airlines said in a statement on this new development: “Japan Airlines has been at the top of our list for some time. It will give us better access to Japan and allow us to offer a more streamlined product for customers.”
Other new members to join this alliance next year are Malev Rt. and Royal Jordanian Airlines. This would be Oneworld’s biggest expansion since it was formed. These new additions would increase the combined income of the group by one-third to $86 billion.
Japan Airlines would become one of the three biggest airline companies to be part of this group… other being American Airlines and British Airways.
