High Tech Computer acquires controlling stake in Dopod
High Tech Computer is the world’s largest maker of mobile phones powered by the Microsoft’s Windows Mobile platform and they have just announced their decision to acquire a controlling stake in Dopod.
Dopod is essentially a local handset vendor with growing market share in China and other Asian markets. High Tech is aiming at completing this deal by the end of the year. This would also delay the planned initial public offering of Dopod shares.
Market analysts are clueless about the kind of relationship these two companies have. They are said to be working closely and are also said to be controlled by the same group. This deal is going to raise more questions on these two companies.
Kenny Yang, Dopod’s chief financial officer had just this to say about this new development: “The IPO is still in the works, but likely to be delayed.”
