BMW expected to do well in US this year

German auto giants BMW might have had their share of differences with the US based search engine giants Google over their German website, but the company is expected to do well here in North America.

BMW’s chairperson and CEO of BMW’s North American division Tom Purves said in a statement that the company is aiming for improved sales in 2006 and should be able to better their last year’s sales number.

The company reported an improvement of around 12% in their sales for January 2006 compared to January 2005. BMW had sold around 307,020 vehicles in the United States last year and have gained from the improved sales of their 3-series sedan and the Mini brand.

BMW is hoping that their aggressive product marketing would help them counter the challenge posed by brands like Lexus and Hyundai in the US market. They are also considering entering the growing hybrid market for sales in the US market.

The company is however delaying their plans to launch their diesel models considering the emission rules in the country are very strict.
