General Motors to invest big in Indiana facility

US based automaker General Motors has said that they would be investing $48 million in a foundry in Bedford, Indiana.

This investment would be to improve the capabilities of this facility to build transmission cases and converter housings for its fuel-saving six-speed transmissions.

GM would be renovating the plant and adding new machinery and equipment.

This facility currently produces transmission cases and converter housings for GM’s other manufacturing units based in Ypsilanti and Warren, Michigan, and Toledo, Ohio.

GM claims that these updated six-speed transmissions would offer a 4 percent gain in fuel economy over the current generation of four-speed automatics.
