Kerala to invest big on tourism in the state

The newly elected government in Kerala has announced their ambitions for the tourism industry. The government is planning to invest Rs 1000 crore in this segment and is aiming at earnings of Rs 10,000 crore.

In addition, the tourism industry is expected to generate employment for as many as 50,000 workers. State Tourism Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said in a statement that the government would explore new avenues in the state to promote tourism in the region.

They would also be working on promoting the state in overseas markets to promote tourism in the region. Last year, the foreign and domestic tourist arrivals to Kerala were 3.46 lakh and 59.46 lakh respectively.

The government is now targeting the achieve a growth of 20% this year itself.
