Singapore Airlines facing delays from Airbus
Singapore Airlines has said that they might seek compensation from European airline manufacturer Airbus as they are facing delays in the delivery of their ordered A380 superjumbo plane. This comes after Airbus revealed delays for the jet’s rollout.
They were the first airline company to order this plane from Airbus, which comes at a reported price of USD 300 million a piece. Singapore Airlines had ordered 10 of these double-decker jets, with an option to purchase another 15.
They had received assurance from Airbus that two of these planes would be delivered before the end of 2006. However, Airbus is now saying that the deliveries might be delayed by around seven months as they are facing production line bottlenecks.
The deliveries of this new plane might be limited to just around nine units in 2007 further causing problems for the airline companies, which ordered the A380 plane. Singapore Airline could still get their first plane this year but after delays of a couple of weeks.
