Google Finance failing to entice users
Google has launched so many subsections on their site in the recent months that it is hard to keep track of all of them. Google Finance was one of the many projects they started with the aim to capture user’s attention who deal in stock markets and other finance related services.
However, as per incoming reports the service is failing to break the stronghold of competing services like Yahoo Finance and MSN MoneyCentral.
Yahoo Finance continues to remain the market leader in this segment as per statistics provided by research company Hitwise. This portal had a 34.9 percent share of the market, as of the week ending June 10, 2006.
On second position came MSN MoneyCentral with a 13.67 percent share. CNN came at third position with their CNN Money website. Google Finance was at a disappointing 38th spot with just around 0.28 percent market share.

Google would do well to provide more financial topics, stocks, markets, investing, banking etc. available to consumers of their “Google Finance” product upon thier first accessing this platform. I first linked in by utilizing Google search on a Ticker Symbol ie PQ (Petroquest Energy), was provided with a page offering a link to various web based financial pages (Highlight the Google Finance link I mean come on this is your company isn’t it, your proud of the product you offer, right? Then show it, show the consumer this is where they want to go for the latest in financial information!!! maybe a little humor you can choose these guys Yahoo, MSNMoney, MarketWatch or us wink, wink Google), I selected the stock quote. This provided a well produced page offering a wealth of company info. Would suggest that information be inserted into a page framed by other Google Finance topics. This is Google your the dominant web market player act like it. Be proud of the product you provide, never embarrass or sully the other players, maintain your integrity, but get behind this product… “Google Finance” and it will work. Additionally, upon submitting the company name through Google search I’m given several hits, and look to the top of the search bar for Google Finance it’s not there, ok so I guess Google is not the place to be for the latest in all my financial needs, or for that matter in my quest to find information regarding my potential investment….. hince Google Finance’s 0.28 market share in this arena vs. it’s competition. I find this disconcerting and amazing. I am not a programmer, a webpage developer, nor do I work in the computer industry, I might be able to build a web page if you shoved me in a room for a week with a few two liter bottles of Mountain Dew, a large box of donuts and a developers manaual. However, It would be a sad excuse for what Google does so well. Lets go troops, make us proud.
Very Respectfully,
