Nokia to open its first US based store in Chicago
Nokia is the world’s largest maker of mobile phones but they trail Motorola in the crucial US market. The company is now trying to fix this glitch by opening a series of exclusive stores in this market and the first of such stores is to be come up in the city of Chicago.
The company said in a statement that plans to open its first U.S. retail store in Chicago on this coming Saturday as they aim to improve brand awareness among consumers here. Interestingly, Chicago happens to be the hometown of their prime competitor in this market Motorola.
Nokia has plans to open four flagship stores in USA in the near future. The next one is scheduled for opening in New York in September. In addition, they aim to have 18 exclusive stores around the world in the next two years.
Nokia’s head of retail Cliff Crosbie spoke on these initiatives: “We’re not doing this completely from a marketing standpoint. There is a business model behind it. Retail is one of the biggest medias now. Stores are essential if you want to communicate directly with consumers.”
