Philip Murtaugh is new executive vice president of SAIC Motor Corp
SAIC Motor Corp is the main business associates of General Motors in the Chinese market. They are due to come out with their first independent in this ever growing market.
The company has now appointed Philip Murtaugh as their new executive vice president. He would be looking after SAIC’s overseas business.
Interestingly, Philip has served as the chief executive and chairman of GM’s China operations between 2000 and 2005.
SAIC has been building cars like Buicks and Santanas in collaborated with the world’s largest automaker GM and German giants VW in the Chinese market and now wants to have an independent division to make cars on their own.
They have invested as much as $460 million unit in February to manufacture their own car and gained the expertise through the acquisition of British carmaker MG Rover.
