Bill Gates: Decision to retire was personal

Bill Gates, world’s richest man recently announced his decision to devote more time to philanthropy and leaving the day-to-day work at Microsoft.

This came as a surprise to many though many experts have said that it might be a good thing for the company who can benefit from the change.

Gates has said that this decision was taken on a personal level as he felt the need to spend more time with his charity foundation, which has received billions of dollars in funds from him.

He added that if he had not setup the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation a couple of years ago, he would have continued to work in the company he loves so deeply.

Gates said in an interview with a media magazine: “Clearly if I didn’t have the foundation I would be staying here full time and working super, super hard because I love working on software. But I was feeling an increased desire to spend more time on foundation work.”

Gates would be leaving his duties with Ray Ozzie but would continue to remain the chairman of Microsoft.
