PM Manmohan Singh to launch Phase 1 of Mumbai metro
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is due to launch the Phase 1 of the Rs 20,000 crore Mumbai Metro project.
This project would be linking Versova in the west to Ghatkopar in the east. This metro train would run on elevated tracks and through underground tunnels and would link the Mumbai city to the suburbs.
As per sources, the four-air-conditioned coach trains on this route would be able to carry 60000 passengers an hour. They would cover a distance of 146 kms from Versova in the west to Ghatkopar in the east, and Colaba in the south to Charkop in the North.
The cost of this project would be shared between Reliance Energy and Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority. Market analysts believe that this Metro project would help solve the transportation problems of the commuters in the city.
