Apple Computer gets an extended deal from Maine
Maine was the first state in the United States to equip students statewide with laptops. And they have just renewed their deal with Apple Computers to provide new laptop computers to more than 30,000 seventh- and eighth-graders and their teachers.
The program would now run for another four years. The deal between the two parties was originally signed in 2002 and lowers the annual cost of owning a laptop to around $289 per laptop.
Apple would be now providing iBook notebook computers to 32,000 students and 4,000 teachers. They would also be upgrading wireless networks in the region. The deal also covers warranties and perks like professional development for each of Maine’s 241 public middle schools.
This deal means that Apple Computers have scored over CDW Corp.’s unit, which uses Lenovo ThinkPad’s.
