Ford to concentrate on Flex rather than hybrids for future cars
US automaker Ford has said that they would focus less on hybrid technology and more on a wider range of alternatives to traditional gasoline-powered engines.
This comes after the company committed itself to launching a range of hybrid vehicles in the coming years. It looks like the company is preferring to take the easier way out.
The company as a result has backed away from a commitment made last fall to build capacity to make 250,000 hybrid vehicles by the end of the decade.
Interestingly, Ford cars are found to have the lowest average mileage per gallon of any of the automakers in the United States and they are the one who needs to come up with innovative vehicles with better fuel efficiency to lure in more customers.
The company said in a statement on their new stand: “Our strategy going forward is not to wed ourselves to a single technology. The strategy doesn’t focus on one catch-all solution but offers a flexible array of options, including hybrids, clean diesels, bio-diesels, advanced engine technologies and E85 ethanol.”
