Nokia and Sanyo collaborates on CDMA technology
World’s largest mobile phone maker Nokia has announced that they are collaborating with Electronics giant Sanyo to form a global mobile-phone joint venture. Nokia is aiming at boosting their market share in its weaker markets and would help Sanyo get back on the track in the mobile market.
The two companies in this collaboration would be developing phones based on the CDMA standard. Nokia trails Motorola in the US market where this format remains the most popular form of communication for mobile companies. Nokia and Sanyo also plan to target other markets like parts of Latin America and Asia, including Japan, India, and China.
This collaboration would come into effect by the third quarter of this year and would become one of the largest players in the CDMA market along with Samsung. This news event helped Sanyo improve its share price in the stock market. The company is already the world’s largest maker of rechargeable batteries and supplies lithium-ion batteries to Nokia and other major mobile phone makers.
