Honda India continues to explore options of launching a small car

Honda is already the dominating player in the two-wheeler market in India and is working hard on expanding into the automobile market.

They just recently launched the popular Honda Civic sedan in the Indian market and announced their plans to expand the production capacities to meet the growing demand in the Indian market.

Now, they want to explore the possibilities of entering the biggest segment of the car market in India by launching a compact car.

Maruti and Hyundai are the dominating player in the compact car segment in India with products like Alto, 800, Santro making up for most of the sales.

Honda Motor Co South West Asia head M Takedagawa spoke about Honda’s plans for India: “”We are deeply and aggressively studying and analyzing entry into the largest segment of the Indian car market.”

General Motors and Toyota are also interested in entering this segment and GM is said to be preparing to launch Chevrolet Spark sometime next year.
