MovieBeam offering high-definition movie online on rent
The technology is improving and so are the services. High Definition videos and players are expected to become popular in the coming years and the technology is yet to pickup. The latest news from this growing tech industry is that MovieBeam has introduced the first delivery service for high-definition films to customers in the United States.
The company has partners in both Hollywood (Disney) and Silicon Valley (Cisco and Intel) and they plan to offer first-run films from six of the seven film studios in standard digital-video format and high-definition films from Disney and Warner Bros.
The service is being targeted at heavy users and would be made available in as many as 24 cities in the country. Interestingly, the costs of the rental are comparable to general movie rental services like Blockbuster. MovieBeam in fact plans to offer movies for download as soon as they are available on DVDs in the retail market.
