Air Deccan too hikes fuel surcharge on tickets
The dominating player in the budget airline segment in India Air Deccan has announced that they are hiking the fuel surcharge on all fares to all routes from Friday.
The hike is of Rs. 200 and it would now be applicable on all bookings made on or after July 7. This hiked surcharge would however not be applicable on tickets that have been booked or purchased in advance.
Air Deccan Chief Operating Officer Warwick Brady said in a statement on this hike: “In the last one year there has been a 36 per cent increase in the fuel prices in India. Tax on fuel has also increased by 26 to 38 per cent. It is imperative for us to revise the fuel surcharge as the fuel cost of an aircraft contributes approximately 40 per cent to the total airline cost.”
