Motorola aims for growth in Chinese mobile handset market
World’s second largest mobile phone maker Motorola is aiming to garner a quarter of the entire mobile phone market in China.
The company is working hard on establishing a national retail network to achieve this goal in one of the fastest growing mobile markets in the world.
Motorola already has around 30,000 retailers selling its handsets in China. This is three times the number of stores selling their phones just around 18 months ago.
Market analysts believe that the company has a market share of around 21% in the market, which has improved from just 11 percent at the beginning of 2005.
Michael Tatelman, general manager for Motorola’s mobile devices division for North Asia spoke on this goal: “Based on what we have on the ground today, we ought to be able to achieve 25 percent share in China in the not-too-distant future.”
