Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur gets $500,000 from Arun Sarin of Vodafone
Arun Sarin, chief executive officer of UK based Vodafone Group has donated $500,000 to his alma mater, the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur.
IIT Kharagpur would be using these funds to build an electronic research laboratory and related research purpose.
S K Dube, director of IIT Kharagpur spoke on this generous gesture from one of his previous students: “It is a donation from Sarin’s personal fund and not from his company and he has already paid $250,000, with the rest to be given in future.”
These funds would be received by the metallurgical and material engineering department of IIT-Kgp and they would use it to set up the Arun Sarin Electronic Research Laboratory.
Sarin spoke on this donation: “Electronic materials have a very important role to play in technology up gradation.”
