Nike sues Adidas for patent infringement
The world’s two largest shoe companies are going to be entangled in a lawsuit soon as Nike has apparently filed a patent infringement suit against Adidas-Salomon AG. Nike is claiming that several of Adidas’ top products violate a Nike patent.
Nike is particularly referring to their patented SHOX cushioning technology. They are claiming that the Adidas’ new Kevin Garnett signature shoe and its Adidas1 footwear break infringe on their patents by using the Adidas’ a3 cushioning system.
Nike has filed this lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas and claims that their SHOX technology is protected by 19 or more separate patents and was developed over 16 years. The company is demanding that Adidas pay damages for the infringement as well as be enjoined from further violation of the patent.
The company has also filed similar lawsuits against Air Max Import and Export Inc. and Romeo and Juliette.
