New York Times going under some serious renovation

The New York Times is planning to some major renovations as it struggles to compete against the growing popularity of the internet for news hunting.

The news media group is planning to make the size of its newspaper narrower. In addition, they are also closing a printing plant as they just recently announced a job cut of 1050 employees.

These changes would take place by April 2008. NYT would be closing down their printing plant in Edison, N.J. they would sub-let the plant and consolidate its regional printing facilities at a plant in Queens.

In addition, the format of the newspaper would be narrower by one and a half inches. This redesign alone would result in job cuts of 250 workers at the company. NYT is hoping to save $42 million through these initiatives.
