Market Rumors claim NVIDIA to power next generation Apple iPod Video
Market analysts claim that NVIDIA has won itself a solid deal and they would be powering the next generation of Apple iPod Video.
If this were true, they would be replacing the chip powered by Broadcom in the current generation of Apple iPod Video players.
Apple’s next generation of iPods are also rumored to be delayed and are expected to come sometime late this year. The next update to iPod Video might be delayed to sometime next year. However, Apple does have a habit of shocking the market with the timing of their launches and we would not be surprised of the next generation iPods arrive before that.
It is also unclear whether PortalPlayer has managed to continue their deal to supply the socket for the next-generation Video iPod.
Satya Chillara, an analyst with American Technology Research Inc. said in a research note: “Based on our analysis, we believe Nvidia is designed into the next-generation vPod socket at the expense of Broadcom. We believe the Nvidia chip adds 3D graphics functionality in addition to all of the existing features (such as H.264) that Broadcom supported with the existing vPod.”
