Cingular reports impressive rise in profits as subscriber base increases massively
US based mobile service provider Cingular Wireless has come out with their latest quarterly results and the company has tripled its second-quarter profit to $540 million.
Cingular benefited from the fact that the customer disconnects rate fell to an all time low and they added as many as 1.5 million subscribers during the quarter.
The company is owned and operated jointly by AT&T and BellSouth and they reported earnings of $540 million last quarter. This was an improvement from $147 million in the same quarter last year.
Cingular Wireless now has a total of around 57.3 million subscribers. They lead Verizon Wireless who has just around 53 million customers. They are due to come out with their revenue reports in August.
Market analysts believe that Cingular has a network reliability advantage over Verizon, which the latter is now closing in at a faster pace. It would be interesting to see how well Verizon performs when they come out with their revenue reports next month.
