BCCI sells TV rights for £352 million to Nimbus
The Board for Cricket Control in India (BCCI) has finally sold the global television rights for the next three years. The deal fetched the cricketing board around £352 million and the contract has been awarded to Nimbus.
The bid was contested by as many as eight parties and Nimbus was selected, as their bid was the highest. They would now be responsible for showing all international and domestic cricket in India until 2010.
The decision to award the contract to Nimbus was announced by Lalit Modi of the Board of Control for Cricket in India. Nimbus however has no television channel of their own. So, they plan to collaborate with other companies operating in India to show the matches.
Nimbus chief Harish Thawani said in a statement: “We could be close to buying a network, we could do multiple networks or partner one, but we want to stop this thing about exclusivity.”
